SALVATION ARMY TO HOLD ANNUAL RADIOTHON
Last Updated: 30 April 2018
On Friday, May 11, The Salvation Army of Michigan City will hold its fifth annual Radiothon.
Ron Miller and the team from WEFM 95.9 will broadcast live from The Salvation Army at 1201 S. Franklin Street for this fundraising effort, hoping to bring much needed donations to the local non-profit.
“This is one of our most exciting events every year,” said Captain Kerry Bartsch, part of the husband/wife team overseeing the local Salvation Army. “We get to spend five hours talking on-air about the wonderful things going on here at our community center.”
From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the Radiothon, listeners can expect to hear stories of hope, as Salvation Army staff, supporters and board members discuss the ongoing mission of “Doing the Most Good” in the community.
In 2017, The Salvation Army of Michigan City saw 12,030 individuals visit the food pantry; 64,896 diapers were distributed to needy families with young children; 89 homeless men stayed in the overnight homeless shelter; $48,873.50 was paid in utility assistance; and more than 14,000 meals were provided to low-income children through the weekend backpack program.
“This kind of impact wouldn’t be possible without support from donors who give time, talent and treasure to help the poor and unfortunate in our city,” Bartsch said. “This Radiothon helps us reach even more city residents to let them know that there are people in need, but there are ways to help them.”
Bartsch welcomes the public to help support The Salvation Army of Michigan City during the Radiothon on Friday, May 11, 2018 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Donors can call (219) 874-6885, stop in at 1201 S. Franklin Street, or text SAMC to 41444 to contribute.
Also on Friday, May 11, The Salvation Army of Michigan City will hold its annual Hands for Hope Luncheon during the Radiothon. Special guests, supporters and friends of the Army have been invited to this lunch – and several will be receiving awards and recognition, including Volunteer of the Year.
“This is a time for us to publicly thank everyone who supports us throughout the year,” Bartsch said. “Whether that help came in the way of Christmas toys, volunteer hours, financial support or any other way of giving, we appreciate all our friends in the community because it all helps us serve those in the most need.”
This year, The Salvation Army of Michigan City welcomes Angie Nelson-Deuitch as guest speaker for the Hands for Hope Luncheon. She will share the story of her connection to The Salvation Army and how it helped her become the philanthropic community leader she is today.
Sponsoring this year’s Radiothon are PNC Bank, Edward Jones financial advisor Michael Kopec, Three Sheets Bar and Grill, Harbour Trust and Investment Management Company, Andrew Mitchell State Farm serving Michigan City and Holly Mitchell State Farm serving Hammond.
